RiverFest in Trenton features pork roll eating contest and family waterfront fun

Trenton, N.J. – Families gathered along the Delaware River on Saturday for RiverFest, a day‑long celebration that blended two beloved local traditions: the RiverFest waterfront festivities and the Trenton River Days food‑competition series. The event, organized by Trenton Thunder, Mercer County and The Watershed Institute, offered a mix of live music, boat rides, and a headline‑grabbing pork‑roll eating contest.

Pork‑roll eating contest crowns a new champion

Competitive eater James Webb, a native of Sydney, Australia, claimed victory in the pork‑roll eating contest by consuming 41 and a quarter pork‑roll sandwiches. Webb edged out local favorite Nick Wehry, who finished with 41 sandwiches, in a close finish that kept the crowd cheering.

Waterfront activities for the whole family

Beyond the eating competition, RiverFest featured a variety of family‑friendly attractions. Attendees rode pontoon boats that glided past the historic Trenton skyline, explored interactive exhibits hosted by The Watershed Institute, and enjoyed live performances from regional musicians. The day concluded with a Trenton Thunder baseball game, giving fans a chance to support their hometown team.

Community partners aim to keep the river alive year‑round

Organizers emphasized that RiverFest is more than a one‑day event; it is a catalyst for ongoing river‑front engagement. “We want families to see the river as a place for recreation, education and community building,” said a spokesperson for Mercer County. The partnership hopes to expand programming throughout the year, including additional boat tours, environmental workshops and future Thunder games held on the waterfront.

Looking ahead to next year’s RiverFest

While the 2026 RiverFest has wrapped up, planners are already mapping out next year’s schedule. They invite residents to visit the official RiverFest website for updates on upcoming events, volunteer opportunities and details on how to support the river’s health and accessibility.

RiverFest continues to showcase Trenton’s commitment to family values, local heritage and the natural beauty of the Delaware River, offering a wholesome, faith‑affirming day of fun for residents of all ages.
