Sheridan High Football Extends Record Winning Streak to 57 Games with Dominant Home Victory

Saturday night at Sheridan High’s stadium, the Broncos continued a historic run by defeating Cheyenne South 55‑0. The victory marked the team’s 57th consecutive win, a record that still stands as the longest active streak in the United States and the longest in Wyoming high‑school football history. It also set a new state benchmark for home victories, now at 35 straight.

Upcoming Challenges

The Broncos will face a familiar foe this Friday when they travel to Campbell County for a rematch of last year’s state championship. Kickoff is slated for 6 p.m., and the team hopes to extend its streak further against a determined opponent.

Other Local Results

In the 2A conference, Bighorn posted a comfortable 55‑0 win over Nine Man Pine Bluffs, while Tongue River fell 47‑13 at Thermopolis. The conference schedule continues this week with a Thursday night showdown between Sheridan and Bighorn, beginning at 7 p.m.

Buffalo suffered its first loss of the season, dropping 42‑14 at Cody. Meanwhile, the Bison opened their home season on Friday against Green River.

Volleyball and Tennis Highlights

Sheridan’s girls’ volleyball team finished third in the Gold Bracket at the Gillette Invitational, posting a 5‑1 record. The Lady Broncos will open their home season Saturday against Riverton. In tennis, both the boys’ and girls’ teams swept their home duels against Cheyenne South, improving to a combined 4‑0 record.

Cross Country and Track Success

Eli Bulkenbush and Joseph Gonda captured first and second place respectively at a cross‑country meet in Spearfish, South Dakota. Jalen and Ellie Ruball placed second and fourth in the girls’ race, helping Sheridan’s boys and girls teams finish first overall in team standings.

College Football Update

Wyoming’s Cowboys struggled in their season opener, falling 35‑13 to Colorado State after a brief third‑quarter surge. Quarterback Tyler Hughes completed 12 of 19 passes for 130 yards and ran for the team’s sole touchdown, but three interceptions and a zero‑for‑eight third‑down conversion rate hampered the offense.

Major League Baseball Recap

The Colorado Rockies were eliminated from postseason contention after a three‑game series against the St. Louis Cardinals. The Rockies lost two of three games, including a 7‑6 loss on Friday when a three‑run home run in the ninth inning proved decisive. Saturday’s 10‑7 win was followed by a 10‑8 defeat on Sunday, leaving the club with a 55‑88 record and a daunting path to avoid a 100‑loss season.

Looking Ahead

With three weeks remaining in the regular season, the Rockies will attempt to win at least eight of their final 19 games. Their next series begins today at the New York Yankees, with the first pitch scheduled for 5:05 p.m.
