Washington and Oregon to Discuss I-5 Bridge Tolling Plans

On June 5, members of the Washington and Oregon transportation commissions will convene to discuss tolling plans for the Interstate 5 bridge over the Columbia River. This joint meeting will focus on reviewing traffic and revenue analyses that will inform future toll rates and policies.

The commissions are tasked with setting tolls and policies to generate necessary funding for the construction of a new I-5 bridge. The meeting, open to the public, will take place from 9 a.m. to noon via Zoom, with live streams available on TVW and YouTube. Interested individuals can register on the Washington State Transportation Commission’s website.

Key Meeting Topics

The agenda includes reviewing toll rate options for the current bridge during construction and for the new bridge once completed. Discussions will also cover the financial capacity of these toll rates to meet funding requirements and potential toll discounts and exemptions.

Tolling is expected to begin on the existing bridge when construction starts, currently planned for 2028. The tolls will help manage traffic, fund construction, and cover ongoing maintenance and operations costs.
