El Paso Youth Band The Painted Velvets Bring Fresh Sound to Local Music Scene

El Paso families are buzzing with pride as four local youngsters have launched their own band, The Painted Velvets. The group, composed of Julia Terrazas (13), Roberto Rodriguez Jr. (10), Antonella Nuñez (14) and Jackie Rubalcava (13), blends piano, guitar, bass, drums and vocals to create a sound that is both original and unmistakably youthful.

Meet the Musicians

Julia began playing piano at age seven and added guitar to her repertoire at twelve. Her early dream of performing on a world‑class stage—she once imagined the O2 Arena—has evolved into a genuine passion for songwriting and sharing her faith‑inspired creativity with her community.

Roberto discovered his love for rhythm at six, when he first sat behind a drum kit. What started as a hobby quickly grew into a deep‑seated love of making music from scratch. Beyond beats, he hopes to travel to every state in the Union, using his talent to connect with people from coast to coast.

Antonella picked up the guitar at twelve and recently added bass to her skill set. A lifelong fan of rock, she values the freedom, expression and joy that music provides. Her long‑term goal is to keep writing and performing for the rest of her life, encouraging other teens to pursue their artistic callings.

Jackie has been singing since she was four, initially dreaming of sounding like a Disney princess. Today, she channels that early enthusiasm into a heartfelt desire to reach listeners with a message of hope and community. Her voice, paired with the band’s original compositions, aims to uplift audiences across El Paso and beyond.

Why Their Music Matters

The Painted Velvets are more than a teenage rock group; they represent a growing movement of young families encouraging their children to develop talents rooted in faith, hard work and parental support. Their original songs often reference themes of gratitude, perseverance and the importance of strong family bonds—values that resonate deeply with the Christian and traditional‑family fabric of our city.

Local venues have already welcomed the band, offering them stage time at community events, church gatherings and school functions. Their performances provide a wholesome alternative to mainstream entertainment, giving parents a safe, family‑friendly option for night‑out outings.

Looking Ahead

All four members share a common vision: to keep creating music that reflects their values and to inspire other young people to explore their own artistic gifts. They plan to record an EP later this year, with the goal of distributing it through local churches and community radio stations.

As El Paso continues to grow, stories like The Painted Velvets remind us that the city’s greatest strength lies in its families, faith and the next generation’s willingness to serve their neighbors through talent and dedication.
