Bradford Owls Fall 42-20 to Kane in Season Opener

The Bradford Owls suffered a disappointing 42-20 loss to the Kane Wolves on Friday night, marking the team’s second defeat of the young season. Despite an early 14-12 lead, the Owls were unable to sustain momentum and the Wolves took control in the second quarter, pulling away for good.

Game Summary

Bradford opened the scoring when senior quarterback Braylon Austin connected on a big catch during the Owls’ first touchdown drive, beating tight coverage from Kane defender Ben McCormack. The drive gave the Owls a 7-0 advantage, and a subsequent field goal extended the lead to 14-12.

However, Kane responded quickly, scoring two unanswered touchdowns before halftime. The Wolves’ defense tightened, limiting Austin’s options and forcing several three-and-out series. By the end of the third quarter, Kane had built a 35-20 lead, and a final touchdown in the fourth quarter sealed the 42-20 victory.

Coaching Perspective

It was Coach Troy Cook’s second game at the helm of the Owls program. In his post‑game press conference, Cook praised his players for their effort but emphasized the need for consistency and better execution on both sides of the ball. “We have a talented roster with 13 returning letterwinners,” Cook said. “Now we must translate that talent into results. We’ll learn from this loss and get back to work.”

Looking Ahead

The Owls return home this Friday, September 11, to host the Smethport Bears. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m., with pre‑game coverage beginning at 6:45 p.m. on WESB Sports and B‑107.5 FM. The home crowd will be hoping to see the Owls snap their losing streak and secure their first win of the season.

Fans are encouraged to attend the game at the Bradford High School stadium and show their support for the team. The atmosphere promises to be lively, with local businesses sponsoring halftime activities and a special appearance by former Owls star Coach Jim “Coach J” Reynolds.

Team Outlook

Bradford’s coaching staff will focus on improving ball security, sharpening the offensive line’s pass protection, and tightening defensive assignments in the upcoming practice week. With a solid core of returning players and a fresh coaching perspective, the Owls have the potential to turn the season around.

Stay tuned to WESB for updates, player interviews, and in‑depth analysis as the Owls work toward a winning finish.
