The Tampa Bay Rays announced that left‑handed reliever Garrett Cleavinger has been placed on the 15‑day injured list because of left forearm tightness. Cleavinger has appeared in 51 games this season, posting a 4.79 ERA and a 1.427 WHIP.

Season performance and recent moves

Last year Cleavinger was a key bullpen piece, recording a 2.35 ERA and a 0.946 WHIP over 67 appearances. To fill the roster spot, the Rays called up 24‑year‑old right‑hander Ty Johnson from Triple‑A Durham. Johnson, who logged a 3.03 ERA and a 0.963 WHIP in 21 games (including 10 starts) at Durham, is now poised to make his major‑league debut.

In addition, the club designated infielder Oliver Dunn for assignment, opening a spot on the 40‑man roster. Dunn, 29, appeared in nine games for Tampa Bay this season, going 1‑for‑11 with an RBI and a walk, and holds a .197/.253/.275 slash line across three MLB seasons.
