Trump RNC Midterm Convention Expected to Fill Over 5,000 Dallas Hotel Rooms

Dallas is gearing up for a major economic boost as the Republican National Committee holds its first midterm convention on September 9‑10. The two‑day event, featuring President Donald Trump’s second‑night keynote and Vice President JD Vance’s opening address, is projected to draw about 20,000 participants, media and staff to the American Airlines Center.

Hotel demand and local business impact

Visit Dallas President and CEO Craig Davis told Bisnow that the convention could fill more than 5,000 hotel rooms across the city. With 35,559 rooms citywide and 10,642 in the walkable downtown core, Dallas has ample capacity to accommodate the influx while concentrating spending near the arena.

The surge is expected to ripple through restaurants, bars, rideshare services and entertainment venues in Victory Park, Uptown and downtown. Hotel rates near the venue have already shown price pressure, with nightly rates climbing sharply on the convention dates.

Economic significance for the city

Dallas welcomed 27.7 million visitors in 2024, generating $10.9 billion in economic impact, supporting more than 60,000 jobs and delivering $649 million in state and local tax revenue, according to Visit Dallas data. Lodging accounted for $1.9 billion of that impact, while food and beverage spending reached $1.8 billion.

The RNC gathering adds a high‑profile group business component without relying on the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center, which is under a multibillion‑dollar renovation. Visit Dallas has promoted the city’s hotels and connected campuses as meeting venues during the construction period and created a dedicated visitor page to guide convention guests to dining, nightlife, attractions and transportation options.

Long‑term benefits

Davis emphasized that the convention’s benefits could extend beyond the two‑day event. “Visits can lead to return trips, new talent and future investment,” he said, underscoring the potential for Dallas to showcase its capacity to host high‑profile national events.

Local hospitality operators, such as Marcus & Millichap Executive Managing Director Chris Gomes, expect the greatest lift for hotels, restaurants and bars within walking distance of the arena. The RNC also plans food, drinks and entertainment in Victory Plaza, further amplifying the economic activity in the immediate area.

What this means for Dallas residents

For Dallas families and faith‑based communities, the convention offers a chance to see the city highlighted on a national stage while supporting local jobs and businesses. The influx of visitors aligns with the city’s broader goal of fostering a vibrant, family‑friendly environment that upholds traditional values and individual liberty.

As the convention approaches, city officials and local businesses are coordinating to ensure a smooth experience for both visitors and residents, reinforcing Dallas’s reputation as a premier destination for major national gatherings.
