Boeing opens low‑cost primary‑care clinic at Port San Antonio to help workers and cut insurance expenses

Boeing has launched a 4,200‑square‑foot medical clinic on the Port San Antonio campus, providing low‑ or no‑cost primary care to its workforce and their families. The facility, which opened in October, is designed to give employees same‑ or next‑day virtual and in‑person appointments, including mental‑health counseling, physical therapy, chiropractic care, health coaching and specialist referrals.

Local impact and cost savings

Port San Antonio officials say the clinic could soon be available to other employers on the sprawling research campus, offering a reliable, low‑cost health option that may help curb the projected 16% rise in Texas insurance rates. “This approach not only reduces long‑term healthcare costs but also helps Boeing manage health insurance expenses sustainably, allowing us to continue offering great benefits that meet employees’ needs,” Boeing spokesperson Dee Russell said.

Six clinicians and two clinical support staff are slated to handle about 140 visits each week. The clinic partners with Crossover Health, a primary‑care network that already operates Boeing clinics in Seattle, St. Louis and Mesa, as well as a separate site at Frost Bank Tower in San Antonio.

Holistic care focus

Dr. Stephen Ezeji‑Okoye, chief medical officer for Crossover Health, emphasized the clinic’s holistic approach: “It’s not just the absence of disease, it’s making sure people are healthy beyond the biological.” Services include mental‑health support, physical therapy, chiropractic care and dental work provided by Onsite Dental, a mobile dentistry company.

By emphasizing prevention and early intervention, Boeing hopes to catch health concerns before they require expensive emergency‑room visits or hospital admissions. “By keeping patients healthy and providing same‑ or next‑day appointments, we help catch health concerns early—avoiding more expensive emergency room visits and hospital admissions,” Russell added.

Business community response

Local health‑insurance consultant Allison De Paoli noted that on‑site clinics are becoming popular among employers because they provide a predictable, stable cost structure. “We will use that whenever we can because it’s so effective at containing costs,” she said, adding that the model could help other Port San Antonio businesses manage rising insurance premiums.

Port San Antonio President and CEO Jim Perschbach praised the clinic as a supplemental resource that could attract additional companies to the site. “We’re big believers that the more you take care of your health, the easier it is to fix you up,” he said.

The new clinic represents a growing trend of corporate‑sponsored health centers that aim to improve employee wellness while protecting bottom lines—a win for families, businesses and the broader San Antonio economy.
