Oasis Reunion Documentary Premieres at Venice Film Festival

The Venice Film Festival welcomed a burst of British rock energy on Saturday as the Gallagher brothers arrived to premiere their new documentary, Oasis: Don’t Look Back in Anger. The film, part concert footage and part deep‑dive into the brothers’ famously volatile relationship, debuted on the Lido docks before the festival’s opening night screenings.

Documentary explores the brothers’ feud and reunion

Oasis, formed in working‑class Manchester in 1991, became one of the United Kingdom’s most beloved bands of the 1990s, scoring a No. 1 debut with Definitely Maybe in 1994 and following it with the record‑breaking (What’s the Story) Morning Glory? in 1995. The band split in 2009 after a backstage altercation in Paris, a dramatic end to a decade‑long rivalry between brothers Noel and Liam Gallagher.

Now, more than a decade later, the brothers have reunited for a 2025 tour that launched in Cardiff, Wales, drawing over 60,000 fans. The documentary captures never‑before‑seen rehearsal moments, the first joint interview in 25 years, and candid reflections from both Noel and Liam about why their music still resonates with new generations.

Filmmakers aim to capture reconciliation and the power of music

Writers Dylan Southern and Will Lovelace, along with writer‑director Steven Knight, followed the brothers before rehearsals began and again while the tour was in full swing. In their directors’ statement they said the film is “about the reconciliation of two brothers, infamous for their volatile relationship, and about the power of music to live on after a band lies dormant for fifteen years.”

The filmmakers also spotlight fans from around the world, showing how Oasis’ songs continue to inspire sing‑alongs and community gatherings. As Southern noted, “Sometimes you might just bump into someone with a dog called Bonehead and that becomes part of the story.”

Release plans

After its Venice debut, the documentary will roll out to theaters worldwide, with Disney slated to give it an IMAX release on September 11 and a later streaming debut on Disney+.

While the film celebrates a musical legacy, it also offers a glimpse into how two brothers can move beyond past grievances, a narrative that resonates with families and faith‑based audiences who value forgiveness and reconciliation.
