Volusia County limits on‑beach parking at select parks for Labor Day weekend

Volusia County officials announced a temporary on‑beach parking restriction for Labor Day weekend aimed at keeping pedestrians safe in the county’s busiest beach areas. The measure will be in effect from Saturday, September 5, through Monday, September 7.

Where the restrictions apply

The county will close on‑beach parking directly in front of three popular spots: Sun Splash Park, Frank Rendon Park, and Flagler Avenue Park. In addition, parking will be limited adjacent to several other parks, including Grace K. Barck North Beach Community Park, Esther Street Beachfront Park, Marianne Clancy Park, Ed Peck Sr. Park, and Dahlia Avenue Park.

While parking spaces at these locations will be unavailable, vehicles will still be permitted to drive through the areas, ensuring traffic flow is not unduly disrupted.

Impact and alternatives

The temporary closures affect roughly 125 parking spaces. To accommodate the expected surge of visitors, Volusia County highlighted its network of more than 60 off‑beach parking lots, which together provide over 2,000 additional spaces. These lots are scattered throughout the county and are intended to give beachgoers ample options for safe, convenient parking away from the high‑traffic shoreline.

Why the county is acting now

Holiday weekends traditionally bring larger crowds to Florida’s beaches, increasing both vehicle and foot traffic. County officials explained that keeping on‑beach parking clear at the most congested spots helps drivers and walkers see each other more clearly, reducing the risk of accidents and improving overall safety for families enjoying the holiday.

“Our goal is to make sure everyone can enjoy the beach safely,” said a spokesperson for Volusia County. “By limiting parking in the most crowded areas, we reduce congestion and give pedestrians a clearer path to the water and park amenities.”

What residents and visitors should know

Anyone planning to spend Labor Day at Volusia County’s beaches should consider arriving early to secure a spot in one of the off‑beach lots. Signage will be posted at the affected parks, and county staff will be on hand to direct drivers and answer questions.

For the most up‑to‑date information on parking locations and any further adjustments, visitors are encouraged to check the official Volusia County website or follow the county’s social‑media channels.

Looking ahead

The county’s temporary parking plan is part of a broader effort to balance the needs of motorists with the safety of pedestrians during peak travel periods. Officials will review the effectiveness of the restrictions after the holiday and may adjust future policies based on feedback and observed traffic patterns.
