Ford Recalls 16,200 Bronco SUVs Over Potential Roof Issues

Ford Motor Company has announced a recall affecting 16,200 Bronco SUVs due to concerns over potential roof defects. The recall impacts vehicles produced between September 23, 2020, and January 13, 2022, for two-door models, and between September 23, 2020, and October 22, 2021, for four-door models. This recall is particularly significant for owners who rely on these vehicles for family transportation and daily commutes.

Details of the Recall

The recall, documented by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, highlights issues with the MIC hard tops on these SUVs. The roofs may crack and delaminate, which could lead to sections detaching while driving. Such incidents pose a risk of debris striking other vehicles on the road. Ford estimates that approximately 5% of the recalled vehicles may have defective roofs.

The problem originated during the production process, where third-party suppliers encountered equipment parameter issues that compromised the integrity of the removable roofs. As of March, Ford has received 25 warranty claims, two field reports, and two customer complaints related to this issue in the United States. Fortunately, no injuries or accidents have been reported in connection with the recall.

What Owners Need to Know

Ford has committed to replacing the faulty hard tops at no cost to the owners. The company plans to send notification letters to affected Bronco owners by November 5, 2026. In the meantime, owners can identify potential issues by inspecting their vehicles for visible cracks or missing pieces on the roof’s outer shell. Increased wind noise while driving may also indicate a compromised roof.

Owners who suspect their vehicle might be part of the recall can verify by contacting an authorized Ford dealer, checking their vehicle identification number (VIN) on the NHTSA’s website, or calling Ford’s hotline at 1-866-436-7332.
