NotYetArt’s ‘Becoming’ Exhibition Showcases Global Creativity at NYCxDESIGN 2026

Brooklyn, NY, recently hosted an exciting event as part of NYCxDESIGN 2026, where the artist community NotYetArt presented ‘Becoming,’ a three-day art and design exhibition. Held at Sanders Studios from May 16–18, the exhibition brought together a diverse group of artists, designers, and creative technologists from around the world.

Exploring Transformation

The theme of ‘Becoming’ focused on transformation and identity, inviting attendees to reflect on the evolving connections between individuals and their environments. The exhibition featured interdisciplinary approaches, integrating contemporary art, design, and experimental visual practices.

NYCxDESIGN, founded in 2012, is one of the most significant design festivals globally, attracting over 100,000 visitors annually. Within this context, ‘Becoming’ stood out for its unique curatorial approach and its ability to engage audiences in meaningful conversations about perception and interaction.

International Participation

The exhibition featured 10 works by 14 artists selected from over 100 international submissions. The jury panel included notable figures such as artist and curator Janet Rutkowski and former Tate Chelsea Gallery director George Madarasz, ensuring a rigorous selection process.

Artists like Fabrice Covelli, Alena Saveleva, and Angel Campos contributed to the exhibition, which became a vibrant gathering point during NYCxDESIGN Week. The opening reception on May 16 was particularly well-attended, featuring live performances and an artist panel discussion.

Live Performances and Networking

New York-based musician ZenHow added a sonic dimension to the exhibition with a performance blending Hip-hop, Jazz, and traditional Chinese instrumentation. Special guest artist Austin Stanbury also presented an immersive media performance, further exploring themes of perception and spatial relationships.

The event concluded with open networking, allowing artists, designers, and members of New York’s creative community to continue discussions throughout the night. NotYetArt’s mission to support emerging artists and foster cross-cultural creative exchange was evident in the success of ‘Becoming.’
