Fort Wayne, IN – The city’s Riverfront district is turning September into a month of free, family‑focused recreation. Promenade Park and Headwaters Park will host a lineup of outdoor movies, fitness classes, dance gatherings and community games, all at no cost to residents.
Outdoor Movie Nights
The September schedule kicks off on Friday, September 4, with a free outdoor screening of Jumanji on the Auer Lawn at Promenade Park, located at 202 West Superior Street. The film begins at sunset; attendees are encouraged to bring blankets or lawn chairs for comfortable viewing.
The riverfront’s fall movie series continues with a showing of Disney’s Jungle Cruise on September 26, followed by the holiday classic The Nightmare Before Christmas on October 16.
Community Activities and Games
On Sunday, September 13, the city invites residents to “Be a Tourist in Your Own Hometown,” a downtown‑wide celebration that includes up to 23 participating attractions. At Promenade Park, families can enjoy sidewalk chalk art, the Parkview Tree Canopy Trail, cornhole, ping‑pong, foosball and other games. The Doermer Kids Canal, the PNC Accessible Playground and urban swings overlooking the St. Marys River will also be open for play.
Free Fitness and Dance Options
Fitness enthusiasts can join a free Ecstatic Dance session on Friday, September 18 at 6:30 p.m. on the Auer Lawn. No registration or prior dance experience is required, and participants move at their own pace.
Zumba classes will be offered on Mondays—September 14, 21 and 28—from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. in the park. Additionally, the Riverfront Social Run Club meets each Thursday at 6 p.m., welcoming runners and walkers of all skill levels.
On September 13, the Park Foundation Pavilion will host a trio of free fitness classes: barre from 9:15 a.m. to 10 a.m., yoga from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., and Pilates from 11:45 a.m. to 12:45 p.m.
