Milo Yiannopoulos deported to the United Kingdom after ICE arrest in New Orleans

New Orleans – Milo Yiannopoulos, the outspoken libertarian commentator who once championed President Trump’s candidacy, was deported to the United Kingdom on Saturday following an arrest by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) at Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport.

ICE agents detained Yiannopoulos on Friday after he failed to appear for a scheduled immigration hearing in July. A federal immigration judge had issued a final removal order on July 22, clearing the way for his removal. The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) confirmed that the order was executed and that Yiannopoulos was flown back to the U.K. later that day.

Voluntary deportation program in focus

The case underscores the Trump administration’s recent push to accelerate voluntary departures of illegal aliens. DHS has been publicizing a program that offers a $3,000 incentive and a free flight home to those who choose to self‑deport. In a post on X, the agency wrote, “Being in detention is a choice. We encourage all illegal aliens to take control of their departure with the Customs and Border Patrol Home App.”

While the program is framed as a humane alternative to prolonged detention, critics argue it places pressure on vulnerable individuals to leave the country under tight timelines.

Yiannopoulos’s controversial past

Yiannopoulos rose to prominence as a tech editor at the conservative website Breitbart before resigning in February 2017 amid backlash over remarks that appeared to endorse adult relationships with minors. He later apologized, claiming he never advocated illegal behavior and disclosed that he himself had been sexually abused as a teenager.

His ties to the Trump movement remain evident. He has collaborated with other MAGA‑aligned personalities, including Ye (formerly Kanye West), who performed at the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans on the night of Yiannopoulos’s arrest. It is unclear whether Yiannopoulos was in town for the concert.

Political reactions

Conservative activist Laura Loomer, known for her close association with President Trump, posted on social media that she had reported Yiannopoulos to ICE, taking credit for the arrest. The administration highlighted the case as an example of its commitment to enforcing immigration laws while offering a voluntary pathway for departure.

Immigration advocates continue to monitor the rollout of the voluntary deportation program, emphasizing the need for due process and humane treatment for all individuals facing removal.
