Residents of Bee Cave and Lakeway will notice significant changes in local transportation infrastructure, aimed at improving safety and accessibility. The city of Bee Cave has activated a new traffic signal at Hwy. 71 and Uplands Ridge Drive, facilitating easier access to the H-E-B shopping center. This project, funded by the Texas Department of Transportation, was completed in mid-May.
Lakeway Crosswalk and Beacon Project
In Lakeway, efforts to enhance pedestrian safety are underway, although facing some delays. The project involves installing raised crosswalks at Highlands Boulevard and updating pedestrian hybrid beacons. However, the Lakeway City Council rejected all bids due to irregularities, opting to re-bid the project to minimize delays. The project is estimated to cost $464,886, funded by the city road tax fund.
Loop 360 Overpass and Interchange
Another major project is the Loop 360 refresh, which includes removing a traffic signal at Courtyard Drive and constructing an overpass. Additionally, RM 2222 will be reconfigured to a diverging diamond interchange, with shared-use paths added. This project, funded by TxDOT and Austin’s 2016 mobility bond, is ongoing with a timeline extending from 2026 to 2029. A left-lane closure at the northbound Loop 360 exit ramp to RM 2222 is currently in place.
These projects reflect the ongoing commitment to improving transportation infrastructure in the area, ensuring safer and more efficient travel for residents and visitors alike.
