Uniontown Red Raiders dominate Brownsville 47-0 to claim National Road Cup

Uniontown, Pa. – In a commanding performance at Redstone Field on Friday night, the Uniontown Red Raiders earned a 47‑0 shutout over the Brownsville Falcons, capturing the first‑ever National Road Cup. The game opened the high‑school football season for most teams in the Western Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic League (WPIAL).

Early turnover sets the tone

Uniontown’s defense struck first when freshman Jax Patterson forced a fumble on Brownsville’s opening play. The ball was recovered by senior Gavin Radford, giving the Red Raiders immediate possession. On the ensuing drive, sophomore quarterback Brayden Hinzy connected with tight end Taylor Galloway for a 15‑yard touchdown pass, putting Uniontown ahead 7‑0.

Offensive firepower builds a lead

Running back Tayshawn Jackson used his speed to break free for a 43‑yard sprint to the seven‑yard line, where senior Mike Thomas capped the drive with a seven‑yard rush for the second touchdown. The Red Raiders continued to dominate the ground game, with Thomas adding a 28‑yard rushing score in the second quarter and a 47‑yard run late in the third period.

Hinzy was efficient, completing five of six passes for 139 yards and three touchdowns. He also found wide receiver Nate Hice for a 28‑yard touchdown reception, extending the lead to 35‑0. Senior receiver Marcus Evans contributed a 41‑yard reception, bringing the halftime score to 41‑0.

Defensive dominance and special teams

The Red Raiders’ defense never relented, forcing a turnover on downs and a defensive pass interference that set up another scoring opportunity. Radford added a 40‑yard punt return for a touchdown, further widening the margin.

Brownsville managed a brief flash of excitement when Max Dieudonne returned a kickoff 85 yards for a touchdown, but the score was nullified by two penalties. The Falcons also recovered a fumble on a punt return, but Uniontown’s control of the game never wavered.

Coach Bukowski’s perspective

Coach Tim Bukowski, who was missing Division I recruit Jackson Mickens due to illness, praised his team’s effort. “Our guys stepped up tonight and came ready to play,” he said, wiping Gatorade from his face after the ceremonial shower. “We had to come back and win it after last year, and we did just that.”

Bukowski highlighted the growth of senior quarterback Hinzy, noting that the player “doesn’t get the credit he deserves sometimes.” He added that Hinzy’s calm leadership helped the team stay focused throughout the game.

Looking ahead

Uniontown will look to maintain its momentum when it faces Ambridge next week at Bill Power Stadium, hoping Mickens can return to the lineup. The National Road Cup will remain in Uniontown’s possession for at least a year, though the Falcons can reclaim it in the next matchup.

The victory not only showcases Uniontown’s football talent but also reinforces community pride in Fayette County’s historic rivalry. Fans left Redstone Field confident that the Red Raiders are poised for a strong season.
