Baltimore will soon welcome its own Fractured Prune donut shop, a move announced by company chief Daniel Windon in August. The brand, which began in Ocean City in 1976, is celebrating its 50th anniversary and sees Baltimore as a natural next step because many of its beach‑town customers already hail from the city.
Why Baltimore?
Windon explained that the decision was driven by demand from Baltimore residents who frequently visit the Ocean City locations. “The people from Baltimore chose me,” he said, noting that tourists from the city, Washington, D.C., and Philadelphia already know the brand and its signature treats such as French Toast donuts and maple‑glazed options.
Company growth and new franchise process
Under Windon’s leadership, Fractured Prune has grown to 15 locations across Maryland, Delaware, and New Jersey. After acquiring the company in 2019, he steered it through the COVID‑19 pandemic and now focuses on careful, location‑specific expansion rather than rapid scaling. Of roughly 100 franchise applications, he has narrowed the field to four or five candidates who share his passion and work ethic.
The legal paperwork for the Baltimore franchise was completed in March 2026, and a marketing campaign is slated to launch around Memorial Day. The search for a suitable franchise owner is ongoing, with Windon emphasizing the need for a partner who understands both the brand and the local market.
Looking ahead
Fractured Prune’s previous expansion attempts under a former CEO included openings in California, Arizona, and Colorado, as well as plans for international sites that never materialized. This time, the focus is on sustainable growth and community fit. The Baltimore store is expected to open later this summer, adding a beloved regional treat to the city’s culinary scene and contributing to local job creation.
