Collin County Health Care Services announced Tuesday that an individual who spent time in the county on Friday, Aug. 14, and Saturday, Aug. 15, has tested positive for measles. The person was infectious during visits to three local venues.
Locations and Times of Exposure
The infected individual was at:
- Turrentine Jackson Morrow Funeral Home, 2525 Central Expressway North, Allen, between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. on Aug. 14;
- Gloria’s Latin Cuisine, 152 Fountain Circle, Fairview, between 12:30 p.m. and 5 p.m. on Aug. 14;
- The Revel in Frisco Patio & Grill, 9305 Preston Road, Frisco, from 7:45 p.m. to 12 a.m. on Aug. 15.
Measles is highly contagious and can spread through the air or contaminated surfaces. The virus can remain airborne for up to two hours after an infected person leaves an area, and it can cause serious health complications.
Who Should Be Concerned
Anyone who was at any of the listed locations during the specified times and who is not vaccinated against measles—or who is unsure of immunity—faces a risk of infection. Pregnant individuals and those with weakened immune systems should be especially vigilant.
Health officials advise those potentially exposed to monitor themselves for measles symptoms through Sept. 5. Typical signs include fever, dry cough, runny nose, sore throat, inflamed eyes (conjunctivitis), small white spots inside the mouth (Koplik’s spots), and a rash of large, flat blotches.
What to Do If Symptoms Appear
If symptoms develop, stay home, avoid contact with others, and contact a health‑care provider for guidance. Call ahead before visiting a clinic or hospital to reduce further exposure.
The most effective prevention remains vaccination with the measles, mumps, and rubella (MMR) vaccine, according to county health officials.
