The PGA Tour has unveiled a revamped schedule for 2027, with notable changes to key events in Florida. The Arnold Palmer Invitational, traditionally held the week before The Players Championship, will now take place the week after. Meanwhile, the Valspar Championship, a staple in the Tampa area, will move from March to May.
Florida’s New Three-Week Golf Highlight
These adjustments create an exciting three-week stretch of top-tier golf events in Florida. The Cadillac Championship is set for March 4-7 at Trump National Doral, located just outside Miami. Following this, the flagship Players Championship will be held at TPC Sawgrass from March 11-14. The Arnold Palmer Invitational will conclude this trio of events at Bay Hill in Orlando from March 18-21.
The Valspar Championship, a non-signature event, will now take place from May 6-9. This shift is part of a broader effort by the PGA Tour to optimize its calendar and enhance the experience for players and fans alike.
Strategic Adjustments for Better Scheduling
The decision to move the Cadillac Championship to early March is strategic, aiming to avoid conflicts with the Formula One Miami Grand Prix and to dodge Miami’s typically hot and stormy May weather. This change also alleviates a congested six-week period in May that previously included two major championships and three signature events.
In addition to these changes, the CJ Cup Byron Nelson, initially scheduled for late May, will now occur from April 29 to May 2 in 2027. These adjustments reflect the vision of new PGA Tour CEO Brian Rolapp, who is committed to refining the tour’s schedule. One of his first actions was to end the two-week Hawaii swing that traditionally opened the season in January.
Looking ahead, the PGA Tour plans to introduce a new format in 2028, featuring a two-track system to determine the best events. This initiative aims to move away from smaller fields with no 36-hole cuts for signature events, ensuring a more competitive and engaging experience for both players and fans.
