The City of Tuskegee, Alabama, is set to benefit from a $400,000 grant aimed at establishing a new automotive supplier plant, as announced by Governor Kay Ivey. This development is expected to create 187 jobs, offering a significant boost to the local economy and providing opportunities for residents.
Investment in Local Infrastructure
The grant, awarded by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development through the Community Development Block Grant program, will fund essential infrastructure improvements for the $163 million CPT America plant. The new facility will be located in Tuskegee Commerce Park, adjacent to the Samkee auto parts production plant that began operations in 2024.
Governor Ivey expressed her support for the project, stating, “This is another big step forward for Tuskegee and Macon County in establishing a strong presence in the automotive industry. This development will offer good-paying jobs for people of all skill levels in the industry. I am pleased to support this project and excited for the positive impact CPT America will have on the area.”
Economic Growth and Job Creation
CPT America, a new company specializing in producing stamped metal components and assemblies for auto manufacturers, will initially develop a 350,000-square-foot facility. The city plans to use the grant funds to extend water and sewer infrastructure to support the plant’s operations. There is also potential for a second phase of development, which would expand the facility by an additional 700,000 square feet.
In addition to the federal grant, the city of Tuskegee will contribute $263,466 to the project, further demonstrating its commitment to fostering economic growth and job creation in the region.
