Taco Bueno Marks Two Years of “Tacos with a Purpose” with Free Hot Honey Fried Chicken Taco

On August 25, Taco Bueno is rewarding customers who support its two‑year‑old Tacos with a Purpose charitable program. Guests who round up their bill to the nearest dollar at any of the 125 participating restaurants in Texas and Oklahoma will receive a complimentary Hot Honey Fried Chicken Taco – a crispy chicken taco topped with lettuce, tomato, cool ranch and Mike’s Hot Honey, valued at $3.99.

How the program works

Since its launch in 2024, Tacos with a Purpose has invited diners to round up every purchase. One‑hundred percent of the rounded‑up donations go directly to nonprofit organizations that provide shelter, advocacy and critical support services for survivors of domestic violence. The initiative operates in 125 Taco Bueno locations across the two states, making it easy for families and individuals to contribute while enjoying a meal.

Funds raised and where they go

Over the past two years the program has generated more than $740,000 for two primary partners:

  • The Family Place in Texas received $455,000. The organization serves roughly 40,000 individuals annually, offering emergency shelter, counseling, legal assistance, education and trauma‑informed programs. It also operates one of the state’s few shelters with an on‑site pet kennel and the only shelter for men and children escaping domestic violence.
  • Palomar in Oklahoma received $260,000. Since opening in 2017, Palomar has assisted over 30,000 clients with services that include emergency transportation, protective‑order assistance, housing, utility support, counseling and recovery programs for survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, human trafficking, stalking, child abuse and elder abuse.

An additional $25,000 was contributed directly by Taco Bueno corporate.

Community impact and awareness

Beyond fundraising, Taco Bueno is working to raise awareness of domestic‑violence resources. Hotline numbers and informational flyers are displayed in restaurant restrooms and at points of sale. Employees receive training on how to connect individuals with local support services. The company’s parent organization has also instituted a zero‑tolerance workplace‑violence policy and partnered with The Family Place to develop a comprehensive domestic‑violence policy for its employees.

Voices from the partnership

“At The Family Place, we know the essential role that community support plays in ending the cycle of violence,” said Tiffany Tate, CEO of The Family Place. “Taco Bueno’s Tacos with a Purpose initiative has been a tremendous force for good over the last two years, helping us provide over 4,500 nights of shelter for our clients.”

“We’re incredibly proud of what Tacos with a Purpose has become over the past two years,” said Dani Perales, director of marketing and innovation at Taco Bueno. “It’s inspiring to see how small acts of generosity can create a lasting impact.”

About Taco Bueno

Founded in 1967 in Abilene, Texas, Taco Bueno is a privately held chain that operates nearly 140 restaurants throughout the American South and Southwest, including locations in Arkansas, Oklahoma and Texas. The brand emphasizes fresh‑made Tex‑Mex fare, hand‑selected ingredients and friendly hospitality.

The free Hot Honey Fried Chicken Taco promotion runs only on August 25, coinciding with Taco Tuesday. Guests who round up their purchase at participating locations will receive the complimentary taco while helping to sustain vital services for survivors of domestic violence across the region.
