Rep. Thomas Massie Files for 2028 Run, Keeps Options Open

In a move that keeps his political future open, Rep. Thomas Massie, R-Ky., has filed paperwork with the Federal Election Commission for a 2028 House race. This step allows him to continue raising funds to support his ongoing political activities, whether as a current officeholder or a potential candidate for federal office.

Future Plans Uncertain

Massie shared the news on social media, stating, “I haven’t made a final decision about which office to seek, if I run.” During an appearance on NBC’s “Meet the Press,” he declined to rule out a 2028 presidential bid, saying, “I will not rule out anything, and right now I’m not going to rule in anything.” He emphasized his commitment to staying engaged in political discourse, possibly from outside the traditional political arena, continuing his efforts to expose issues in Washington, D.C.

Recent Primary Loss

Massie’s announcement follows a recent primary loss to former Navy SEAL Ed Gallrein, who received backing from President Donald Trump. Trump had criticized Massie, calling him a “disaster,” and actively supported Gallrein by visiting Massie’s district. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth also appeared at an event with Gallrein prior to the primary.

Political Stances

Massie has been known for his opposition to certain policies, including the war in Iran and a spending package proposed by Trump, which he opposed due to its impact on the national deficit. He also collaborated with Rep. Ro Khanna, D-Calif., to pass legislation requiring the Justice Department to release files related to the investigation of the late Jeffrey Epstein.

First elected to the House in 2012, Massie has built a reputation for challenging the status quo and advocating for transparency in government operations. His future political endeavors remain a subject of interest as he considers his next steps.
