Fort Worth’s Library Advisory Board received an update on Aug. 6 confirming that the Sendera Springs Library branch in northwest Fort Worth will be completed on schedule. Construction is slated to finish in December 2026, with the doors opening to the public in January 2027.
Bond funding and location
The 18,000‑square‑foot facility, located at 1307 Avondale Road, was approved by voters as part of the city’s 2022 bond program. The bond reflects community support for expanding library services in growing neighborhoods.
Operational leadership
Sherry Knight, assistant director of operations for the Fort Worth Public Library, told board members the project remains on track. She emphasized that the library will provide modern resources and flexible spaces for families, students, and seniors once it opens.
Board developments
During the same meeting, the board nominated and elected Chris Campbell as the new vice chair, a position he will assume on Oct. 1. Campbell ran unopposed, indicating broad confidence among board members.
Strategic plan nearing completion
The library system’s strategic plan is in its final phase. J.R. Clanton of BerryDunn, the consulting firm hired by the city, presented the plan’s progress to the board. The plan is intended to guide daily decisions, resource allocation, and public communications.
Community engagement has been extensive. More than 1,000 surveys and 142 budget exercises were conducted, and staff from across the system met four times to shape the plan. Key focus areas include expanding digital collections, enhancing youth programming, and improving accessibility for all patrons.
Next steps and community involvement
The Fort Worth City Council is currently reviewing its budget. Library staff encouraged board members and residents to attend community budget workshops scheduled for Aug. 12 through Sept. 15 and to voice support for the library’s funding needs.
The next Library Advisory Board meeting will be held on Oct. 1, 2026, at the Summerglen Library Branch, where further updates on the Sendera Springs project and the strategic plan will be discussed.
What this means for families
When the Sendera Springs Library opens, northwest Fort Worth residents will gain a modern hub for learning, after‑school programs, and community events. The facility is expected to serve as a cornerstone for families seeking reliable information, safe study spaces, and opportunities for civic engagement.
