Ryuichi Oiwa, a professional golfer from Japan, has successfully qualified for the U.S. Open after an outstanding performance in the qualifying rounds held in Hino, Japan. Oiwa, who is ranked No. 378 in the world and competes on the Japan Tour, finished the 36-hole event with a score of 12-under 128, securing his place in the prestigious tournament set to take place at Shinnecock Hills Golf Club in Southampton, New York, from June 18-21.
Impressive Round Secures Qualification
Oiwa’s qualification was marked by a stellar second round where he carded a 61, following an opening round of 3-under 67 at the Hino Golf Club’s King Course. His performance included five birdies and a double-bogey at the par-4 14th hole in the first round, and an impressive nine birdies in a bogey-free second round, with three consecutive birdies from holes 15 to 1.
Joining Oiwa in qualifying for the U.S. Open are his compatriots Kaito Onishi and Taihei Sato. Onishi, ranked No. 811 globally and a competitor on the Korn Ferry Tour, finished at 11-under with rounds of 64 and 65, overcoming a double-bogey with birdies at holes 14, 16, and 17 in his second round. Sato, ranked No. 424, completed the event at 10-under after shooting 66 and 64, with a dynamic opening round that included two bogeys, three birdies, and an eagle on the front nine.
Riki Kawamoto and Taichi Nabetani, also from Japan, finished as the first and second alternates, respectively, for the upcoming U.S. Open.
