Disney announced that its latest feature‑length documentary, Disney Worldbuilders, is now streaming on Disney+. The film, directed by veteran filmmaker Leslie Iwerks, offers fans an inside look at the creative minds behind Disney parks worldwide.
Creators share personal moments
In a recent interview on the Red Carpet at the D23 Expo, Iwerks explained that the documentary lets audiences see beloved creators experience their own work. “When you walk through ‘Toy Story’ Land and any park around the world, you’re not seeing it through the lens of one of the creators of ‘Toy Story,’ Pete Docter. Now, you’re going to be able to see Pete Docter walk through his own land and talk about what’s interesting to him, what’s fun, and what’s joyful to him,” she said.
Animator and filmmaker Pete Docter appears in the film, noting, “I think probably the greatest compliment you could give any of us was we’re going to make an attraction out of your movie.” The documentary also captures director Jennifer Lee, known for “Frozen,” as she explores the World of Frozen attraction at Disneyland Paris for the first time, providing a raw, unfiltered perspective that has never been shown before.
Family legacy behind the camera
Leslie Iwerks comes from a long line of Disney innovators. Her father, Don Iwerks, and grandfather, Ub Iwerks, are both recognized as Disney Legends. Iwerks said she enjoys shining a spotlight on the imagineers and magic makers who bring Disney stories to life.
Fans can stream Disney Worldbuilders now on Disney+. The documentary is produced by The Walt Disney Company, the parent of Disney+ and the ABC television network.
