In Monroe County, Arkansas, a high-speed pursuit involving the Arkansas State Police reached speeds of 107 mph before ending with a Tactical Vehicle Intervention (TVI) that caused the fleeing vehicle to overturn. The incident occurred on May 15 on U.S. Highway 49, when a trooper attempted to stop a gold Ford Fusion for window tinting that appeared below the legal limit and for crossing the fog line.
The driver, identified as 22-year-old Jshawn Johnson, initially stopped but then fled again, prompting a dangerous pursuit. Johnson reportedly drove recklessly, passing vehicles on the shoulder and using the wrong lane, endangering both his passenger and the public. The trooper attempted a TVI due to Johnson’s hazardous driving.
During the pursuit, Johnson allegedly braked aggressively and swerved towards the trooper, forcing the patrol unit into a ditch. After another TVI attempt, the trooper successfully made contact with the vehicle’s rear quarter panel, causing it to rotate, leave the roadway, and overturn.
Johnson and his passenger, Dennis Thompson, 40, exited the vehicle. While Thompson was detained, Johnson fled on foot and evaded capture despite an extensive search involving K9 and air support. Thompson refused medical assistance and was later released.
An affidavit for Johnson’s arrest has been filed, with charges including speeding, driving on a suspended license, improper window tinting, and aggravated assault. He is also charged with felony fleeing and assault on a law enforcement officer. Authorities continue to search for Johnson, who remains at large.
