Florida redrawn districts set up GOP‑Dem contests in 25th, 14th, 22nd and 9th

The Florida Legislature’s recent redistricting has turned four previously Democratic‑held districts into competitive battlegrounds. Voters in the newly drawn Districts 25, 14, 22 and 9 will choose between Republican and Democratic candidates in November.

District 25

Incumbent Rep. Jared Moskowitz, D‑FL, secured the Democratic nomination after defeating Democratic Socialist Oliver Larkin. Former Boca Raton mayor Scott Singer won the Republican nomination, promising to cut taxes, reduce regulation and boost the economy. Singer cited the tax cuts enacted under President Trump and former Republican majorities, noting the removal of taxes on tips, overtime and Social Security benefits.

Moskowitz highlighted his bipartisan record, including legislation urging the administration to advance a leadership plan for Venezuela and a push for more affordable housing nationwide.

District 14

Rep. Kathy Castor, D‑FL, will face Republican challenger Mike Beltran. Beltran’s platform centers on tax cuts, a balanced federal budget and support for President Trump’s Working Families Tax Cut, which eliminates taxes on tips, overtime and provides relief for seniors on Social Security.

Castor emphasized her vote for the ROAD to Housing Act, a bipartisan bill that limits institutional investors from buying single‑family homes and expands Community Development Block Grants for disaster relief in Tampa Bay.

District 22

Former high‑school principal Pia Dandiya will run against Casey Askar in a district without an incumbent after Rep. Lois Frankel was moved to the 23rd district by the new maps. Dandiya’s campaign focuses on opposing the Trump administration’s tariff policies, expanding affordable housing and lowering prescription‑drug costs.

Askar advocates a tax‑limitation amendment and a balanced‑budget amendment to address the national debt and enforce fiscal discipline in Washington.

District 9

Incumbent Rep. Darren Soto, D‑FL, is set to defend his seat. He has highlighted more than $1 billion brought to the central Florida district since 2017. The Republican field remains open, with Dan Green and Ben Butler both seeking the nomination.

The Cook Political Report rates District 25 as a “toss‑up,” indicating a viable chance for either party in the upcoming election.
