Monroe County authorities arrested Shelby May Fink, 35, of Summerland Key on Monday night following a violent confrontation at a residence on 46th Street. Investigators say the incident began when an adult male roommate reported a verbal argument that escalated when Fink threw a lit candle at him.
Deputies Respond and Face Assault
Monroe County Sheriff’s Office deputies arrived at the home around 9:24 p.m. Upon arrival, Fink barricaded herself inside her bedroom and ignored repeated commands to open the door. After eventually opening the door, she refused to exit the room.
When deputies attempted to take her into custody, Fink became combative, pulling away and repeatedly grabbing at the officers. One deputy was spat on, and another was kicked as the deputies tried to restrain her.
Threats During Transport
While being transported to the Monroe County Jail, Fink continued her hostile behavior, threatening to kill one of the deputies. The deputies maintained control and safely delivered her to the detention facility.
Fink now faces multiple charges, including battery on a law‑enforcement officer, battery, resisting arrest, threatening law‑enforcement, and obstruction. The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office confirmed the charges and indicated the investigation remains ongoing.
Community Impact
Local residents expressed concern over the violent nature of the dispute and the safety of both civilians and law‑enforcement personnel. The incident underscores the challenges deputies face when responding to domestic disturbances and the importance of adhering to lawful authority.
The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office encourages anyone with additional information about the incident to contact their office. They also remind the public of the need for calm and cooperation during police interventions.
