Texas Culinary Institute: Bringing Families Together Through Cooking

In El Paso, Texas, the Texas Culinary Institute is making waves by bringing families and friends closer through the art of cooking. Founded by Yvonne Enriquez and her husband, the institute was inspired by a scene in the movie ‘Hitch’ where couples cook together. This idea blossomed into a community-focused endeavor that opened its doors in March 2022, following the passing of Yvonne’s mother.

A Tribute to Family and Caregivers

The institute is more than just a place to learn cooking; it is a tribute to Yvonne’s mother and a support system for caregivers. The walls of the institute are adorned with art donated to ‘Hearts to be Healed,’ a nonprofit dedicated to caregivers. Yvonne emphasizes the importance of caregiving, stating, ‘At the end of the day, either we’re going to become a caregiver or need one.’

Classes That Connect and Educate

Classes at the Texas Culinary Institute offer an opportunity to disconnect from technology and focus on meaningful interactions with loved ones. For $98 per person or $350 for a four-class bundle, participants learn to prepare a starter, a main dish, and a dessert. Yvonne believes that cooking is not just a skill but an art and a daily necessity. She encourages people to explore different cuisines, stating, ‘It’s very important to educate ourselves in other cuisines in learning how to cook.’

The institute’s mission aligns with the values of family and community, providing a space where people can enjoy each other’s company while learning a valuable life skill. For more information or to book a class, interested individuals can visit the institute’s website.
