Mugzy Slugzy, also known by her human name Margarita O’Brien, has been selected as the 44th S.L.U.G. Queen of Eugene. The title was awarded by a panel of judges on Friday night, recognizing her goodwill and unique slug-themed costume design, musical performance, and miniature dog, also dressed as a slug.
S.L.U.G. Queen Role
O’Brien expressed her excitement about becoming the S.L.U.G. Queen, stating that the role is not just about winning a pageant, but also about serving as an unofficial goodwill ambassador for Eugene. She emphasized her interest in mental and emotional health, and her desire to build community and hope in the city.
The S.L.U.G. Queen competition was attended by several hundred people in downtown Eugene, who cheered on the contestants and celebrated the event. Eugene Mayor and S.L.U.G. Queen judge Kaarin Knudson praised the event, saying that the S.L.U.G. Queens are an institution that makes Eugene a beautiful city to call home.
