Some donors to well-known charities for children’s cancer research hospitals have reported receiving an increasing number of requests for money. One donor, who wishes to remain anonymous, stated that they have started receiving mailings every month, then every week, and now multiple times a week, in addition to messages on their landline phone, text messages, and emails.

Concerns Over Donor Information Sharing

The donor expressed concern that their name and address have been sold or shared with other nonprofits, resulting in a flood of solicitations from unfamiliar organizations. This has led the donor to reconsider their support for the charities and instead increase their donations to local school programs.

According to Give.org, businesses and charitable organizations do sell their clients’ or donors’ contact information to other organizations. Donors who wish to stop receiving solicitations can try writing directly to the charities and asking to be removed from their mailing lists.
