Deon Fourie, a 39-year-old rugby player, has been recalled by the Springboks after a series of injuries. Fourie, who will turn 40 next month, played his last test in the 2023 Rugby World Cup final against New Zealand in Paris. He has mainly been rehabbing since then due to a ruptured ACL, an ankle issue, a bicep injury, and a recent knee surgery.

However, Fourie’s performance in his first match in 13 weeks for the Stormers in New Zealand’s tour opener in Cape Town on Friday caught the attention of Springboks coach Rassie Erasmus. Fourie scored the Stormers’ first try, grabbed two turnovers, and made three tackles in 15 seconds, showcasing his value as a hybrid flanker and hooker.
