The first Baldwin Street Reunion and Block Party was held recently, honoring unsung heroes like Frances Jackson and Bridget Smith, who had an open door policy for anyone in need.

Community Comes Together

The event, hosted by Jewu Richardson’s organization, Building IT Together CT, provided free services such as hair cuts, school supplies, and food to the community.

Attendees included Pastor David Via, known for his community service, and Emma Jones, who has fought for police accountability and systemic reform since the fatal shooting of her son Malik Jones.

The block party aimed to show the community that they are seen and cared for, with co-host Angel Hubbard stating, “We are showing this ward, especially our young people, that we see them, that we care for them.”

The event also featured a chess match, a game truck, and a bouncy house, with Asst. Police Chief Manmeet Bhagtana introducing herself to residents and discussing community policing.
