Rowan Henchy, the 23-year-old daughter of actress Brooke Shields, has joined the cast of Peacock’s reality show ‘Next Gen NYC’. Henchy, who has type-1 diabetes, is proud to be an example for other young people living with the condition.

Living with Type-1 Diabetes

Henchy was diagnosed with type-1 diabetes at the age of 15. She uses wearable automated insulin technology, such as Omnipod, to control her condition. ‘I always had a bag that needed to be filled to the brim with needles and insulin pens and test strips, and now everything is controlled and monitored with one device,’ she says.

Henchy’s mother, Brooke Shields, had initially expressed concerns about her daughter joining a reality show. ‘She was afraid that I was going to come in here with a camera crew, and they were going to be damaging her hand-painted dining room,’ Henchy says with a laugh.

A ‘Nepo Baby’ with a Strong Work Ethic

Henchy is often referred to as a ‘nepo baby’, a term used to describe the children of famous parents. However, she is determined to make a name for herself and prove that she is more than just her parents’ daughter. ‘I love the term nepo baby. I am obsessed with the term nepo baby. I think it’s genius. I will never shy away from it,’ she says.

Henchy’s strong work ethic and down-to-earth personality are traits that she inherited from her parents. ‘Mom told us that you treat the janitor with as much respect as the president of the company, that you make eye contact and say thank you, that you lead with respect,’ she explains.
