The James Bowie Pirates are gearing up for the new season with a strong roster and high hopes. After an 0-6 start last season, the team went 3-1 in the final four games, securing a spot in the postseason.
Returning Starters
The Pirates have nine returning starters on offense, including running backs Nate Potter and Cole Gipson, who both earned first-team all-district status. The team will also return seven starters on defense, with Potter expected to play a key role at linebacker.
Head coach Chance Blackburn is optimistic about the team’s chances, citing great leadership and a strong work ethic as key strengths. The team’s sophomore class is also expected to make a significant contribution to the team’s success.
Season Schedule
The Pirates will kick off their season on August 28 against Quinlan-Boles, followed by a home game against Rivercrest on September 4. The team will also travel to Ore City on September 11 and finish out the nondistrict schedule with home games against Celeste and Cumby.
District play will begin on October 8, with the Pirates facing off against Linden-Kildare at home. The team will also travel to Clarksville and Big Sandy, and finish the regular season with a rivalry game against Maud.
