Incumbent state Rep. Bob Titus won the Republican primary election for House District 139 in Christian County on Aug. 4. Titus received 3,268 votes, or 54% of total votes cast in all 14 precincts. Challenger Sandy Karnes received 2,782 votes, or 46%, according to Christian County election results.
Background
Titus, R-Billings, began his first term in the Missouri House in 2022, succeeding former state Rep. Jered Taylor. Titus has deep roots in Christian County, the place he has called home since the 1980s. Those roots now have a full family tree — Titus and his wife, Tammy, have 10 children, along with 18 grandchildren.
Titus’ opponent in the primary election, Karnes, lived in Nixa for over a decade and worked with the local chapter of the Republican Party, serving as chairwoman for the 7th Congressional District Republican Party and vice chair of the Christian County Republican Central Committee.
Reaction
“It’s very satisfying; we put a lot of work into this,” Titus said by phone at 9:30 p.m. on Aug. 4 after it was clear he had won the primary election. “So, I can’t wait to get back to work.”
“Thank you to all of my supporters, friends, family and especially my husband, Jack, for all the support,” Karnes said in a text message to the Daily Citizen at 9:45 p.m. on Aug. 4. “This was not a loss for me because it was about me stepping out in faith.”
