A Churchill High School student, Emely Charloth Suaza Chambo, 16, and her father, Fernando Suaza Ortiz, were released from the Dilley South Texas Family Residential Center, according to U.S. Rep. Joaquin Castro.
Detention and Release
Chambo was detained on July 12, and her father was also detained when he went to pick her up from the immigration processing center. Castro visited the ICE facility in Dilley on July 28 and spoke with Chambo.
Castro has been campaigning to close the ICE facility in Dilley, citing worsening conditions for detainees, including inadequate bedding, food, and water. CoreCivic, the private company that operates the facility, claims to provide a safe and humane environment for the individuals in their care.
