A local animal welfare group in Oklahoma is sharing the story of Foxy, a stray dog who was reunited with her family after being missing for a year. Foxy was discovered under a set of school bleachers and brought to The Village Animal Welfare. Her microchip allowed her family, who had not seen her in a year, to be located, leading to a heartwarming reunion.
Importance of Microchipping Pets
Erin Varvel, an adoption technician with The Village Animal Welfare, explained the benefits of microchips. “Microchips are a more permanent identification. Tags on collars are great, but the tags can break off. Collars can slip off. Having that microchip is an extra piece of mind,” Varvel said.
Foxy’s story is being shared to inspire more pet owners to microchip their animals and protect their families. For those who find a stray animal and wonder if it has a microchip, animal welfare organizations or veterinarians can scan the pet for free.
