As Memorial Day approaches, communities in Western Clark County are gearing up to honor those who have served our nation. This year, Memorial Day falls earlier than usual, prompting local events to take place this coming weekend.
North Hampton Celebrations
The North Hampton Lions Club will kick off the weekend with a breakfast at Asbury United Methodist Church, located at 104 East Clark Street, from 7:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 23. Following the breakfast, the North Hampton Memorial Day Parade will commence at 3 p.m. with Brady Clagg serving as the Grand Marshall. Residents are advised to avoid traveling south on North Hampton Road during the parade formation, which begins at 2 p.m. Those interested in participating can register by calling (937) 244-2434.
The parade will proceed north on North Hampton Road, concluding at the park on West Clark Street. A memorial service will follow, featuring Sheriff Chris Clark as the speaker. The day will wrap up with an ice cream social at the Pike Township Firehouse.
New Carlisle and Enon Observances
In New Carlisle, the community pool will open its doors on Saturday, May 23, marking the unofficial start of summer. Meanwhile, the annual Enon Memorial Day Parade is scheduled for Sunday, May 24, beginning at 2 p.m. Participants will gather at 1 p.m. in the Greenon school parking lot at 510 Enon-Xenia Road. The parade will culminate in a remembrance ceremony at the Enon Cemetery.
The Enon parade is sponsored by the George Rogers Clark Memorial VFW Post 8437. Members of the post will place a commemorative wreath at the military memorial located in the center of Enon Cemetery. Those wishing to join the parade can still register by calling VFW Post 8437 at (937) 864-2361, with last-minute registrations accepted on the day of the event.
These events provide an opportunity for families and community members to come together in remembrance and gratitude for the sacrifices made by our servicemen and women.
