The incident occurred in Pulaski Park, where the three children were seen in the Passaic River. The cause of how they ended up in the river is still unclear, but heavy rainfall in the region had caused the water level to rise.
A man in the park attempted to rescue the children before the first responders arrived but was unable to reach them due to the strong current and deep water.
