President Donald Trump addressed journalists, political figures, and guests on Friday evening at the rescheduled White House Correspondents’ Association dinner, delivering remarks that combined jabs at political rivals, media critiques, lighthearted ribbing of cabinet members, and praise for law enforcement.
Trump’s Speech
Trump commended the law enforcement personnel who intervened in the attempted assassination attempt against him. He singled out Secret Service Officer Victor Gonzales, who received the WHCA’s President’s Award for Exceptional Service for stopping the gunman.
During his speech, Trump took comedic aim at Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., referencing Kennedy’s past public comments about handling dead animals. Trump also targeted members of the media, including CNN anchor and chief White House correspondent Kaitlan Collins.
Near the conclusion of his address, Trump put on a red hat reading “Trump 2028” and joked about seeking a fourth term in office. “I’m pleased to announce my intention to, and this is somewhat of a scoop, my intention to run for a fourth term as president of the United States,” he said.
