The Jefferson County Commission moved quickly through its Tuesday committee meeting, signing off on several items ahead of Thursday’s formal session. Commissioner Joe Knight joked that the meeting’s swift pace was due to the absence of Commissioners Mike Bolin and Sheila Tyson.
Several road improvement measures are slated for a vote on Thursday, including a resolution related to the Galleria Boulevard extension project. The project involves the purchase of 0.25 acres of right-of-way.
Road Projects and Development
As work on the Northern Beltline continues, Jefferson County is providing notice of right-of-way purchases for the Carson Road Improvements Project Phase II. The acquisition was funded entirely by the county and covered seven tracts of property.
A time-extension amendment for the Old Rocky Ridge Road widening project with Volkert Inc. is also under consideration, with $7,033,592.74 remaining from an original budget of $54,799,312.59.
In addition to road projects, the commission approved several grants for consideration on Thursday’s agenda. These include a community grant to Central Alabama Home Building Academy to support its training facility and public service grants for Independence Place and The Agriculture Exhibition Center Corp.
