Photographer Andrea Martí’s latest project, ‘Everyone is Beautiful and No One is Horny,’ aims to capture intimate moments between couples. The series, which was part of her graduate studies at the University of the Arts London, features six young couples kissing in a vintage London nightlife hotspot.
The Inspiration Behind the Project
Martí’s inspiration for the project came from a 2021 viral essay about the lack of desire and yearning in modern media. She notes that while everyone has beautiful bodies in the media, there is no tension or desire. Her project seeks to recreate a sense of intimacy and connection.
Martí’s research also touched on the fact that Gen Z is having less sex, is averse to dating, and is lonelier than previous generations. She believes that one of the core issues is the sense of perpetual optimization, where people are too focused on tracking their calories, looking great, and having successful careers to prioritize sensuality.
The photographer found her subjects through a casting director and asked them to kiss in various locations around the venue. The resulting images are steeped in nostalgia, with a nod to 1960s styling and a retro wood interior.
