Florida’s Back-to-School Sales Tax Holiday begins Monday, July 18, and will go through Thursday, August 20. Qualifying tax-free items include clothing, footwear, wallets, bags, handbags, backpacks, fanny packs, and diaper bags with a sales price of $100 or less per item.
Eligible Items
School supplies up to $50 per item, learning aids up to $30, and personal computers up to $1,500 for noncommercial home or personal use are also covered. The exemption doesn’t apply to briefcases, suitcases, garment bags, watches, jewelry, umbrellas, handkerchiefs, skis, swim fins, roller blades, skates, books that are not otherwise exempt, cellular telephones, video game consoles, digital media receivers, and devices that are not primarily designed to process data.
A full list of eligible items is on the Florida Department of Revenue website. The sales tax holiday began as a seven-day exemption in 1998 and was permanently locked into state law as a month-long event in 2025.
