New Haven State Rep. Pat Dillon has received the endorsement of Sierra Club Connecticut in her bid for another two-year term in office. The endorsement was announced in a Thursday email press release, which included a letter from Stephen Lewis, the political chair of the Connecticut chapter of the Sierra Club.
Endorsement Details
The letter affirmed the group’s endorsement of Dillon in the 92nd General Assembly District primary and general election, citing her demonstrated commitment to protecting the environment. As a 21-term incumbent, Dillon serves on the state legislature’s Environment Committee and is a deputy majority leader and House chair of the Health Subcommittee of the Appropriations Committee.
Dillon is facing challenges from two fellow Democrats, Eli Sabin and Justin Farmer, in the Aug. 11 Democratic primary for the west-side state House of Representatives seat. She has also been endorsed by the local Democratic Party and the CT AFL-CIO.
Environmental Challenges
The Sierra Club’s endorsement comes as state residents are dealing with poor air quality due to smoke from Canadian wildfires, highlighting the need for strong environmental leadership. Dillon welcomed the endorsement, stating that protecting the environment is a public health issue and that the choices made today will impact the health of communities across the state.
