Bucket O’ Blood Books and Records, a staple in the Avondale neighborhood, is closing its location at 3182 N. Elston Ave. after 11 years. The decision to close the store is due to ongoing maintenance issues, including a leaking ceiling, water damage, and mold.
Maintenance Issues
The store’s owners, Grant and Jennifer McKee, stated that the building has not been maintained properly, leading to frequent incidents of water damage and subsequent mold growth. Despite their efforts to address these issues, the problems have persisted, making it difficult for the store to operate.
The McKees are exploring options for a new location and hope to own their next store, rather than dealing with a landlord again. They are committed to staying close to their customers and neighbors in Avondale and are grateful for the community’s support.
Bucket O’ Blood is still active in its current location and encourages customers to visit and attend events. The store will continue to bring in new records, books, and movies and host events, including monthly book clubs.
