Camping in national parks can be a great way to save money, but the fees can add up quickly. A recent study by Casino.org found that the cost of a weekend camping trip in some of the most popular national parks can be quite high.
Cost Breakdown
The study looked at six categories of costs: nightly camping fees, access and permit fees, average meal and drink costs, purchasing firewood, buying ice, and fuel costs. The top 5 most expensive parks were Grand Teton National Park, Olympic National Park, Yellowstone National Park, Zion National Park, and Joshua Tree National Park.
For example, a weekend camping trip to Grand Teton National Park would cost around $439, with nightly camping fees of $59, access and permit fees of $35, and average meal and drink costs of $22.50. Fuel costs would add another $75.20 to the total.
However, there are ways to save money when camping in national parks. Consider staying in a campground outside of the park, or looking for free or low-cost camping options in the surrounding area.
