The Democratic primary for Connecticut’s 1st Congressional District has seen significant fundraising efforts from candidates, with U.S. Rep. John Larson and his challenger Luke Bronin leading the way. Bronin, the party-endorsed candidate, outraised Larson by about $100,000 in the latest fundraising quarter, with $598,788 to $481,451.
Fundraising Strategies
The candidates have employed different fundraising strategies, with Bronin receiving most of his funding from individual donors, including billionaires and executives from private equity and tech industries. Larson, on the other hand, has largely relied on donations through political action committees (PACs), including those representing corporate and union interests.
Gilchrest and Fortune, the other two candidates, have raised significantly less and have focused on canvassing and get-out-the-vote efforts. Gilchrest raised about $26,000 in the most recent fundraising quarter, while Fortune received nearly $40,000, with more than $25,000 coming from her own funds.
Donor Profiles
Bronin’s top donors include executives from private equity and tech industries, such as Christopher Swift, Jim Lambert, and Clifford Asness. Larson’s donors include business owners based in Connecticut, such as Mark Scheinberg and Alan Lazowski. The candidates have also received donations from PACs, with Larson receiving significant contributions from the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) and other corporate PACs.
