April 18: Fairbanks hosts 5K, Earth Day Makers Market and Craft Night

Fairbanks residents have a variety of ways to get involved and have fun on April 18, with events that span fitness, local arts, and community connection. Whether you want to exercise outdoors, browse handmade goods and sustainability projects, or spend an evening crafting with neighbors, the city’s calendar offers something for people of all ages.

The morning kicks off with the Beat Beethoven 5K, an all-ages run and walk that raises support for the local symphony. The event is scheduled from 11 a.m. to noon at the UAF Patty Center and welcomes runners and walkers of every pace. It’s a good option for families or anyone looking to combine light exercise with a community-minded cause.

From midday into the afternoon, a Celebrate Earth Day & Makers Market Fair runs from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. at Ryan Middle School. The market brings together local makers, small businesses, and environmental groups, offering handicrafts, informational booths, and opportunities to learn about sustainable practices. Attendees can shop handmade goods, talk with vendors, and discover local eco-focused initiatives.

As the day winds down, Craft Night at The Folk School in Pioneer Park provides a relaxed evening workshop from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. This session is designed for people who want to make something with their hands while connecting with others in a casual setting. It’s a nice way to end the day by sharing skills, ideas, and conversation with fellow community members.

With events spread across the city, April 18 is a convenient day to mix activity, learning, and creativity. Plan your schedule to attend one or more gatherings, bring water and sensible footwear for outdoor activities, and consider supporting local vendors and organizations while you enjoy the day. For details on registration or any changes, check local community calendars or contact event hosts directly before heading out.
