A young boy from New York living with level 3 severe autism recently received specialized sensory-themed essential items through a national wish-granting organization.
Sunshine Foundation Grants Special Dream
The Sunshine Foundation fulfilled the “Special Dream” for Cristian Rivas, providing him with equipment designed for his specific developmental needs. Among the new items is a “Count Wall,” which has quickly become a focal point of his daily activities.
“Cristian has been really interested and enjoying the Count Wall,” his mother said in a statement. “I really appreciate this opportunity given for my son to experience different sensory items, and I am sure that this will greatly benefit him for the future. Thanks to the Sunshine Foundation and our sponsor, my son’s dream became reality.”
Funding for the equipment was provided by an anonymous donor.
The Sunshine Foundation focuses its resources on children from income-limited families who live with lifelong severe chronic illnesses and conditions. These include cerebral palsy, spina bifida, Down syndrome, hydrocephalus, severe epilepsy, and level 3 severe autism.
Operating since 1976, the charity states it has served more than 44,000 children across the United States.
